The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced plans to digitize its system for paying temporary staff, in a bid to prevent delays and ensure timeliness.

In a press statement dated May 8, the EC revealed that following the December 2023 District Level Elections, a total of 116,211 temporary officials had been paid GHc 69,164,842.11 for their work, with only 47 staff still yet to be paid GHc 24,263.16.

"The Commission is modernizing its recruitment process for temporary employees, by digitizing its data collection systems. This initiative will enhance and improve the payment methods for all Temporary Officials and prevent delays,” the statement signed by the Acting Director of Public Affairs at the EC, Mr Michael Boadu, stated.

"Additionally, the digital system will help streamline administrative procedures, reduce paperwork and ensure the accuracy and security of data. This approach is a significant step towards optimizing operational efficiency and resource management within the Commission,” the election management body added.

The move is aimed at addressing past issues of delayed payments to temporary poll staff.

By digitizing the records and payment process, the EC stressed it hopes to pay staff promptly and cut out inefficiencies.

"With this modernisation, current and future temporary staff of the EC should expect to be paid on time," Mr Boadu assured in the statement.
