MFWA Executive Director slams Akoma FM for engaging in irresponsible media practice
25.04.2024 LISTEN

The Executive Director of Media Foundation (MFWA), Mr. Sulemana Braimah has called out Kumasi-based Akoma 87.9FM, questioning the station’s style of journalism.

This follows a viral video of a programme on the station where two women are seen exchanging words, some of which are unprintable.

Essentially the women who appear to be fighting over a man insulted each other while the host of the programme is sitting quietly in her seat in the background.

Reacting to the video, Sulemana Braimah questioned Akoma FMs way of journalism, indicating that irresponsible media practice is a threat to media freedom in the country.

“Dear Akoma 87.9 FM in Kumasi, how is this journalism? Is this your way of providing information, education and entertainment to your audience? Irresponsible media practice is the biggest threat to media freedom,” the MFWA Executive Director said in a post on X.

In the comment section of the post, several Ghanaians shared their concern about the kind of journalism being practiced by Akoma FM.

Others also indicated that irresponsible journalism has become rampant among many media platforms in Kumasi.

“Kumasi has a problem with media work. From sports to eerm, everything seems to be concert nkoaa,” a Ghanaian by the name of Kwabena Gyas lamented in the comment section.
