Representatives of twenty-six women trade groups from the Ashanti, Bono, and Ahafo Regions have called on Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to select a female running mate for the upcoming 2024 elections.

These groups emphasized the importance of greater female representation in top positions, advocating for increased participation of women in the country's political scene.

They expressed concern over the underrepresentation of women in key decision-making positions and highlighted the need for gender equality in political leadership.

Addressing the press at the Racecourse Market, the women groups stressed that the inclusion of women in top political positions is essential for women's empowerment and national development.

They urged Dr. Bawumia to consider selecting a woman from the Ashanti Region as his running mate, referencing the region's importance and support to the NPP in Ghanaian politics.

According to the representatives, having a female running mate would serve as a positive example for young women aspiring to enter politics and would promote gender inclusivity in the country's politics.

They warned that failure to select a female running mate could result in their support shifting to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which recently announced the selection of a female running mate.

"We are urging Dr. Bawumia to select a female running mate from the Ashanti Region. A female vice president will fight for the welfare of Ghanaian women and ensure that our interests are represented in all spheres of life," they stated.

‘'He should choose a female running mate as the NDC has done, else we’ll be compelled to vote for the NDC in the December elections," they warned.
