The Clerk to Parliament, Cyril Ansah, has acknowledged the Presidency's request not to submit the anti-gay bill for presidential assent pending ongoing court cases.

In a reply letter to the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante, Mr. Ansah asked for clarity on when it would be appropriate to submit the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2024.

The letter from Mr. Ansah dated April 10, stated: "I have taken note of the contents of the letter, particularly the last paragraph, which requests that I 'cease and desist from transmitting the Bill to the President until matters before the Supreme Court are resolved'."

He continued: "Accordingly, I await an indication in writing from your Office on when to present the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2024 to His Excellency the President for his consideration, pursuant to Article 106(7) of the Constitution, 1992."

Meanwhile, the President’s directive was met with the suspension of the approval of ministerial nominees by Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin who also cited a then court injunction against it.

However, the said injunction filed at the Supreme Court by South Dayi MP Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor was dismissed.
