The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, has taken the blame for the delayed construction of interchanges in Kumasi, the regional capital, promising to address the issue promptly.

Former Roads and Highways Minister, Amoako Atta pledged to build five interchanges at key locations in Kumasi, including Oforikrom, Bekwai, Ahodwo, Suame, and Santasi roundabouts.

These locations were identified as priority areas for interchange projects.

However, despite these promises, the construction of the Suame interchange, one of the proposed projects, has yet to commence, leaving residents frustrated over the lack of progress.

In an interview on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Mr. Osei-Mensah acknowledged the delay and blame for the unfulfilled commitment.

He explained, "The residents should put the blame on me; I will accept it. Former President Kufour initiated the Sofoline interchange, which remains incomplete due to various obstructions on the road.

“We decided to prioritize clearing these obstacles before commencing new projects. Although we initially planned for five interchanges, my focus is on the Suame and Santasi interchanges.”

Mr. Osei-Mensah reassured the public of the government's commitment to accelerating the construction of the Suame Interchange to alleviate traffic congestion in Kumasi.
