Akufo-Addo sacks Hohoe MCE, nominates Francis Fiakpui

President Akufo-Addo has sacked the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Hohoe, Daniel Noble Awumey, and appointed Francis Fiakpui to replace him.

In a statement issued on March 25, 2024, the Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Hon. O.B. Amoah, said the president had revoked Mr. Awumey's appointment as MCE for Hohoe in accordance with the Local Governance Act.

"I wish to inform you that, in accordance with Article 243 (3) (b) of the Constitution and Section 20 (3) (b) of the Local Governance Act 2016 (Act 936), His Excellency the President of the Republic has revoked your appointment as Municipal Chief Executive of the Hohoe Municipal Assembly," part of the statement announcing the revocation read.

The minister instructed Mr. Awumey to hand over his duties to the Regional Minister to oversee the Municipal Assembly until a new MCE is confirmed.

In a related statement the same day, Hon. O.B. Amoah announced that Mr. Fiakpui had been nominated by the president as the new MCE of Hohoe, pending approval by the municipal assembly.

"H. E. the President in accordance with Article 243 (1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20 (1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) has nominated the undermentioned person to the office of Municipal Chief Executive, pending approval by the Hohoe Municipal Assembly," the minister said in nominating Mr. Fiakpui.
