The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has warned the military capos against attempts to help the ruling NPP rig the 2024 general elections.
This comes after the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona, stated that the military has a significant responsibility to ensure a free, fair, and transparent election.
Per a Power FM report, he urged military commanders at all levels to ensure that the troops under their command meet expectations and provide the right kind of leadership during Ghana's election period.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, March 21, NDC Director of IT and Elections Dr. Edward Omane Boamah urged Chief of Defence Staff Major General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona not to try such a move.
According to Dr. Boamah, Major General Onwona should rather be apologizing "for the killing of eight Ghanaians during the 2020 polls and the invasion of parliament in January 2021."
The NDC election director stated that his party will win all the military barracks because "the non-performing NPP government has lost the trust of the military except a few."
He warned the CDS that "with lost trust, unlawful orders will be disobeyed on December 07!"
