Mary Addah, Executive Director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), has expressed concerns about the country's anti-corruption initiatives.

According to her, the battle against corruption has become a 'lip service' with little or no actual results to show.

According to Ms Addah, institutions tasked with preventing corruption frequently fall short by just talking about it rather than taking strong and meaningful steps to solve the problem.

Despite considerable public knowledge of the prevalence of corruption, she emphasised the absence of prosecutions and punishments for wrongdoing or corrupt behaviours.

During an interview with Citi TV, Ms Addah highlighted the urgent need to go beyond rhetoric and execute concrete steps to combat corruption head on.

Ms Addah emphasised the necessity of a strong commitment to holding wrongdoers accountable, claiming that it is critical for combating corruption and establishing a more transparent and accountable society.

"We have seen the state of corruption being fueled by rhetoric rather than action, and most of the public sector institutions, including the executive, are seen to be talking about the issue more than taking action.

“We have seen that in most instances we do a lot of public awareness, and yet it does not reflect in actual investigations, prosecutions, and sanctioning of the corrupt," Ms Addah remarked.
