The Savannah Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party, Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana has lamented what he described as a show of opulence at the just ended parliamentary primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Savannah Region.

In a Facebook post, the regional chairman widely known as Professor Kalamonia, alleged that the level of ostentation showcased during the primaries of the NDC has never happened before in the body politics of the Region.

According to him, the opulence was extremely pervasive that delegates were seen madly rushing for cash and other goodies ostensibly to vote in a certain pattern which he said is unhealthy for Ghana's democracy.

"The level of opulence shown at the primaries was terrifyingly shocking and invariably posing danger because it has the tendency to jeopardize Ghana's Democracy", he stressed.

Kalamonia also cautioned that the unfortunate phenomenon if not stopped, persons with money but without leadership qualities will get the opportunity to man the affairs of the country.

"This canker, if not nibbed in the bud, can instigate monecracy into our body politics, regrettably paving the way for criminals with tainted money to rise to the helms of political office," he stated.

He roundly condemned the action of the NDC in the Savannah Region and called on the Special Prosecutor and other anti-corruption institutions to probe the alleged opulence and vote-buying characterised the primaries held on May 13.

"In conclusion, we wish to call on our anti-corruption agencies, especially the Office of the Special Prosecutor, to probe the opulence and vote-buying which were on display in the just ended presidential and Parliamentary primaries of the NDC held in the Savannah Region," he emphasised.
