The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has announced a roadmap for its flagbearership elections ahead of the 2024 general elections.

In a historical clash, the first mass political party to be formed in Ghana will choose its flagbearer on June 12, 2023, in an internal election that will be conducted throughout the country.

Meanwhile, in Ghana’s political history, June 12, 1949, at the Old Polo Grounds in Accra, was the day the Convention People's Party (CPP) was born.

In a press statement signed by Nana Yaa Akyempim Jantuah, the General Secretary of the party, itnoted that "this is in accordance with the Constitution of the Convention People’s Party, which states that when the party is in opposition, it would elect its flagbearer two years before the general elections."

The statement adds, "The decision to go by the Constitutional Provision was overwhelmingly agreed upon by all members present at the Central Committee, which is the highest administrative decision-making body of the Party."

The CPP, at its Central Committee meeting held on Monday, March 20, formed a committee made up of Comrade Wing Commander Patrick Sorborjor (Rtd), Comrades Nana Yaa Akyempim Jantuah, Yirimambo Moses Ambing, Emmanuel Opare Addo, Nana Mireku Tumi Comrade Godwin Opare Addo and Comrade Felicia Akorli, to oversee the affairs of the upcoming primaries.

Further details about the primaries, the party said will be communicated in due course.

CPP FLAGBEARERSHIP ELECTIONS
At a Central Committee Meeting held on the 20th of March 2023, the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has determined to hold its Flagbearer Elections by the 12th of June 2023.

This is in accordance with the Constitution of the Convention People’s Party which states that when the Party is in Opposition it would elect its Flagbearer two years before the General Elections.

The decision to go by the Constitutional Provision was overwhelmingly agreed by all members present at the Central Committee which is the highest administrative decision is making body of the Party.

In this regard a Congress Committee to fashion out and put together modalities as well as oversee the Flagbearer elections was formed by the Central Committee. The Members of the Committee are:

We encourage all qualified members who are desirous to lead our great Party to win the 2024 Elections to present themselves forward when nominations are opened.

The Party also at the Central Committee Meeting affirmed its commitment for the reorganisation and elections to be held at all levels of the Party structures in due course (Polling Stations, Electoral Areas, etc).

The CPP in due course will update our stakeholders and the Party at large on the roadmap to CPP Flagbearer Elections and the Reorganisation of the Party.
