A number of navigational channel buoys have been installed by the Management of the Takoradi Port along the access channels of the Port to enhance the safety of vessels visiting the place.

Captain James Richmond Quayson, the Harbour Master at the Port of Takoradi, said that the initiative aligned with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority’s (GPHA) efforts to make ship navigation in the country’s ports easier and safer.

Captain Quayson stated in a statement copied to the Communication for Development and Advocacy Consult (CDA Consult) in Tema that the buoys would not leave the navigator in doubt, adding that hitherto, the navigators used their knowledge of the area and help of GPHA’s pilots to safely berth in the port.

Ocean Going Vessels (OGVs) coming and going out of the Tekoradi Port are expected to navigate safely with the help of the installed navigational channel buoys.

“But now, these buoys will ensure the captains are well informed during their passage in and out of the port,” he added.
