The President of the Insurance Brokers Association of Ghana (IBAG) Shaibu Ali has said his outfit is determined to make insurance very easy for the general public.

Speaking at a media soiree event held on Wednesday November 9, the IBAG president said, “We need to demystify insurance and we believe we can do this by getting closer to the younger ones still in school.”

The media soiree organised by IBAG is part of activities undertaken by the association as part of its “Broker Awareness Month” commemoration.

Throughout October, IBAG embarked on several activities as part of “Broker Awareness Month” to educate the public on the importance and need to be insured.

The awareness month marked as a campaign was under the theme; “The Broker, Your Gateway to the Insurance Market”.

During the period, IBAG engaged in a number of activities including Radio Interviews on the Role and Relevance of Insurance Brokers, Series of TV Interviews on various topical issues such as; Compulsory Marine Cargo Insurance, the new Insurance Law, and what the public needs to know, the Relevance of Insurance Brokers, the role of Brokers in Motor Insurance Claims, and the Insurance Broker in an era of digitalization.

Other activities IBAG embarked on included an engagement with Members of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and a visit to St. Mary’s Senior High School and Accra Senior High School to educate the students on insurance, the career opportunities in insurance as well as the role of Insurance Brokers.

In addition, the Insurance Brokers Association of Ghana also donated some items to the schools to meet their pressing needs and gave out prizes to some students.

During an address at the media soiree, IBAG President Shaibu Ali called on journalists to help spread the good news about the role and relevance of Insurance Brokers.

He explained that Insurance Brokers are professional insurance intermediaries, whose duty it is to use their expertise and knowledge of insurance to advise and assist consumers to buy adequate insurance covers for their specific needs at competitive terms and conditions, and at the right premiums/price without any extra cost to the consumer.

President Shaibu Ali noted that IBAG does not seek to promote an individual company but the Insurance Broking profession, which is indeed the public’s gateway to the insurance market.

In his concluding remarks, the IBAG President expressed his appreciation to the Commissioner of Insurance, Industry heads, Colleagues CEOs, as well as the Education and Publicity Committee of the association.
