FEB 22, 2022 LISTEN

The Dome-Kwabenya Constituency leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says the absence of their Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo has not hindered development in the area.

According to them, necessary steps have been taken to ensure that the constituency gets its share of the national cake.

The constituency secretary of the NPP, Theophilus Ansah Larbi told Citi News that, “we’ve been managing everything in this constituency. Although we expected that her absence will affect the constituency, when it comes to development, we have taken steps in going to the various ministries as constituency executives so that whatever developmental needs we expect at Dome-Kwabenya are taken care of.”

Theophilus Ansah Larbi’s comment comes on the back of calls for her removal over her continuous absence from Parliament.

As Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, she has also been on a long leave granted by President Akufo-Addo.

In an earlier Citi News interview, the Constituency Chairman of the NPP for the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency, Robert Osei Bonsu, said the party's National Executive Committee (NEC) will meet to decide what actions to take against the MP.

“Unfortunately, we have not heard from our Member of Parliament for some time now. All efforts to get to her have proven futile. The National Executive Committee will definitely decide on the next line of action.”

“Her actions are not the best. It is not in the interest of the party or Ghanaians.”

A week prior, a Deputy Trade and Industry Minister, Michael Kofi Okyere Baafi, accused Sarah Adwoa Safo of sabotaging government business.

The New Juaben South MP said the former Deputy Majority Leader's continuous absence in Parliament is making government business in the chamber difficult.

She had become the subject of public debate some months ago following allegations that she was impersonated during Parliamentary proceedings on November 30, 2021, because the Majority side needed the numbers at all cost to approve the government's 2022 budget, which they did despite the disapproval by the minority side.
