The IGP of Ghana, George Dampare

IGP Dampare, many people worldwide, revere Ghana as a great country, firstly because of our great-inspiring history and secondly, the peace that for years existed between devoted Christians and Muslims.

Unfortunately, the great country formerly called the Gold Coast has gradually turned into a land of bribes, corruption, and crime.

For a number of years now, there have been frauds, crime, bribery, theft, and all kinds of nefarious activities taking place with impunity at the Ghana ports.

Since there is no genuine law to put people, including chiefs, politicians, and government officials occupying high positions behind bars, the situation has gotten worse.

To fill the gap of corruption at the ports, the tariffs or customs duties on imported goods coming to Ghana, have been abnormally raised over 200%, yet still, Ghanaians in the Diaspora and businessmen that love the country, have to face all those harsh realities without any improvement.

However, it’s unprofessional, if Ghanaians in the Diaspora and businessmen are subjected to deliberate frauds to lose whatever they have imported into the country.

On September 16, 2020, an article entitled “Ghaspora TV Discusses About Corruption At Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority,” was published by ModernGhana. Reference: https://www.modernghana.com/news/1029894/ghaspora-tv-discusses-about-corruption-at-ghana.html

Even though this was an article I wrote about because I watched the program "Habor Issues with GUTTA," simultaneously on local television, "Ghaspora TV" hosted by a Ghanaian journalist, Mr. Simon 'Bonsafo' Bawua, in Antwerp, I became a subject of attack and insults, since many Ghanaians take everything as politics.

If you write against the NPP government about what is going wrong in the country, you are a member of the NDC, and if you write against the NDC, you are for the NPP.

Many Ghanaian writers living in and outside the country have been under constant attack even though all of them have one thing in common, for Ghana to be a better country.

Many are not aware of the suffering Ghanaians in the Diaspora face each day overseas, despite playing a significant role in sustaining the economy of Ghana through thousands of dollars and Euros remittances, many become victims of fraud in their own countries.

It’s sheer wickedness for someone who has toiled in Europe to purchase a Hummer and Sprinter Pickup truck into Ghana for corrupt custom officials to capitalize on the coronavirus situation in the country to sell his vehicles on auction at a cheap price to unknown buyers.

This is a crime those responsible, including the buyers, must be arrested immediately to face justice Dampare if you believe justice for the common man.

The manner those vehicles were quickly auctioned at a very cheap price, even reveals that there are some ‘big men’ involved in that deal.

A victim of fraud at the harbour narrates his story

IGP Dampare, even though the harvest is plentiful and the labourers are few, I still believe in you to make a change in Ghana, our great country.

The sad part of this story is many worldwide, due to social media and through Ghanaians married to foreigners, are following every crime taking place in Ghana.

The politicians in Ghana don’t care because they have enough to eat but there will be a time that money, goods, and businesses will stop coming to Ghana, that’s when the situation will be worse than the current and as usual, the common people are those that will suffer.

As earlier said, Dampare, I have confidence in you to change Ghana. Please, let your investigations begin as soon as possible to round up those involved in that shady deal, including the buyers as soon as possible. Thank you.
