Mrs Josephine Panyin Mensah, the woman in the Takoradi kidnapping conspiracy case has been sent to the Takoradi Regional Hospital [European Hospital] for a second opinion on her alleged pregnancy.

The woman according to her family disappeared last two weeks with a nine-month-old pregnancy. However, after she was found last Tuesday, she had no baby bump and is unable to account for the whereabout of the baby she claims she delivered on the day she was abducted.

In a press release from the Ghana Police Service on Thursday morning, it announced to the general public that from checks made by medical experts, Mrs Josephine Panyin Mensah was not pregnant when she disappeared.

The news has been met with fury with neighbours of the woman in question staging a demonstration.

Speaking to Citi News at midday, Acting Director-General of Public Affairs, ACOP Kwesi Ofori has said the Police is seeking a second opinion on the alleged pregnancy.

“The Police took her again from Axim District Hospital to the European Hospital which is the Regional medical centre. The lady presently is on admission and the Police is looking for a second opinion. We are doing this in line with the status of the law looking at good police practices as exist elsewhere and in our own country,” the Ag. Director-General of Public Affairs said.

According to ACOP Kwesi Ofori, the Police will after the second opinion from the European Hospital, have no problem moving the woman to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for final checks when necessary.

He said the Police are engaging relevant bodies and will ensure a fair and impartial investigation into the matter.
