APR 14, 2021 LISTEN

The newly elected Member of Parliament for Dormaa East Constituency, Hon. Paul Kwesi Apraku Twum Barima has shared his vision of building the constituency into a well-developed and competitive city by 10 to 15 years with staff of the District Assembly.

To this effect, he has promised staff motivation and better welfare as a foremost policy in maximizing their potentials towards his vision.

This came to light on Friday, April 09, 2021, when he met the staff of the District Assembly in a brief meeting at The Wamfie Presbyterian Church to introduce himself, get to know each, one on one, and to especially thank them for his victory in the 2020 December 7 elections, since he requested for their votes during their last staff durbar before the close of last year.

The meeting was also to offer him the opportunity to inform the workers of his readiness to share in their concerns, know their challenges and help in finding solutions to them and relay his vision and aspirations for the development of the constituency and solicit for their support.

Addressing workers of the Assembly, Hon. Twum Barima acknowledged some of the challenges hindering their progress to include promotion issues, condition of service, lack of funds for further education among other welfare issues.

He, therefore, introduced two of his aides who were with him at the meeting as the first point of call to help mediate addressing some of these issues while he prepares to get an office.

He explained that as public officers in the area, their roles in building and developing the District cannot be overlooked, hence the need to offer help where necessary to better position them for the task ahead.

He, therefore, called on the workers to be devoid of any partisan politics, collaborate with him by seeing themselves as Members of Parliament in their various professional capacities; working hard and bringing out problems at one end while he also goes in search of solutions at the other end with the sole aim of building the constituency.

The honorable member of parliament asked the workers to bring out all their innovative ideas, technical skills, and expertise on board to partner his other policies so that in a matter of 10-15 years, the Dormaa East Constituency would be at par with most well developed regional capitals of the country.

In a brief statement, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Agyeman, commended the Member of Parliament for his numerous contributions to the District Assembly though he has not as yet benefited from the District Assembly’s common fund.

He also commended deserving staff, who have sacrificed in various ways, for getting results for the Assembly; adding that for the past four years now, the Assembly’s worse performance in the District Assembly Performance Assessment Tool (DPAT) has been 98% which is quite overwhelming and expressed much appreciation to workers for their commitment to the development of the District.

The DCE also encouraged all workers to do very well in every office they find themselves in order to live a positive and historic legacy, they can always be proud of. He also advised them to take advantage of the available COVID Vaccines in the Health Directorate and be vaccinated so that the shift system can be avoided in the long run.

He explained why the Assembly could not afford to give the staff the 2020 Christmas package but assured them of it before the close of April.

At the open forum, the staff commended the MP for his foresight, willingness to help in their welfare issues as well as wanting to build a working relationship with them as he partners with the DCE for the development of the place. They also thanked him for giving all the workers two thousand Cedis (GHC2000) for lunch.
