The Tower Of Babel 1(Ungodly Ambition)

Day 7

Memory Verse: Genesis 11:4 NIV

"Then they said, 'Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.'

Vision and ambition are synonymous in meaning. Many people use them interchangeably when expressing themselves. Although similar in meaning the two have different implications in their application. Vision is more godly whiles ambition is more self-centered. Any achievements motivated by the Self of a man is said to be an ambition.

In Genesis chapter one, after a man was made in the image of God, the man was commanded to be fruitful and multiply and subdue the earth. So the will of God is for a man to scatter all over the earth and have dominion over all the created beings of God.

But we see in the text above that, there was a deliberate decision not to scatter over the earth... This was their motivation. The motivation to go against the will of God. Many agendas pursued by people all over the world today is on r that is against the will of God. There are people who consciously want to prove God's word a lie. That is a wrong foundation for anyone to build on.

The next issue is building themselves a city. So the reason for the building is for self-gratification.

In addition, their motivation was to make a name for themselves.

Self-gratification and making a name for oneself is all not from God. It limits the hand of God and shuts the heavens over the life of a man. These were the same motivation Lucifer had in heaven and made him loose his place.

May we be delivered from ungodly ambitions as we seek to please the Lord of Lords. Anything that is built on ungodly ambition has no foundation. God's grace is enough for us as we seek to follow His will for our lives.
