Court convicts scrap dealer for dealing in narcotics

Cape Coast, June 14, GNA - A Circuit Court in Cape Coast presided over by Mr Beresford Acquah on Monday sentenced Karim Abdulai, a scrap dealer to 10 years imprisonment for possessing narcotic drugs.

Abdulai 21 who pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and possessing dried leaves that was established to be Indian hemp is also to compensate a woman he assaulted with GH¢ 600 or in default serve another two years in prison.

Inspector Daniel Agbezuhlor, the prosecutor told the court that the convict resides at Kasoa and goes to Mankessim to buy scraps.

He said last Monday June 7, the police went looking for Abudu, a friend of the convict who allegedly assaulted one Ms Elizabeth Koomson, but did not meet him at home.

Inspector Agbezulor said some people who were smoking wee in the area, took to their heels when they spotted the police.

He said the following day when Abudulai got to know that Ms Koomson's friend, one Miss Selina Biadoo, a Senior High School student was the one who accompanied her friend and the police to the area, he became infuriated and picked a quarrel with her for causing his friend to loose his waist bag and other items.

The prosecutor said Abdulai assaulted Miss Biadoo who made a report to the police leading to his arrest.

Inspector Agbezuhlor said a search on him revealed seven wrappers of Indian hemp.
