Togolese striker, Emmanuel Adebayor has blamed Togo's goalless draw at home to Benin in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers (AFCON) on the poor state of the pitch at their national stadium.

The match was played on Sunday, 9th September 2018 in Lome and though the Hawks enjoyed a giant share of the possession, bad decisions ensured that the opportunities were wasted.

“I used to play in Real Madrid, I used to play in Arsenal, the most beautiful pitches on earth. Playing today on a synthetic pitch in Togo, a pitch which is 20 years old, it is difficult but what do you want me to do?” he asked.

Adebayor further went on to describe how playing on the pitch does not help him or the team to yield the needed results.

The striker said “it doesn't work out for me, it doesn't work out for the country, if they change the pitch we will play but if they don't change it we don't have a choice, we just have to do our best.

Sunday's results leave Togo at the bottom of Group D with only one point after playing two matches after losing 1-0 to Algeria in their first qualifying match.
