Angola To Host 2019 Amputee African Cup

Angola has won the bid to host the 5^th Cup of African Nations for Amputee Football (CANAF) in 2019.

Announcing the bid at a special African Amputee Football Leaders Meeting in Accra, Madam Celeste Tchiama, General Secretary of the Angola Amputee Football Association and a member of the Angola Paralympic Committee (APC) disclosed that, Angola had put all things in place to host the tournament in 2019.

“Angola wanted to host it in 2015 but that couldn’t happen. Now we are ready to host it in 2019 after the 2018 World Cup,” Madam Tchiama stated.

The bid was approved by the delegates from Ghana, Angola and Kenya, paving the way for the competition to come on again after six years in hibernation.

Madam Tchiama, who was elected as the Interim Treasurer of newly formed Federation of Africa Amputee Football (FAAF) at the meeting, assured other countries of a wonderful experience in Angola.

The last CANAF took place in Kenya in 2013 but was fraught with some problems, leading to the suspension of the Amputee Football Federation Africa (AFFA) from the World Amputee Football Federation (WAFF).

Angola had opted to host the event in 2015 but withdrew its bid later; the event couldn’t take place in subsequent years due to the redundancy of the then continental federation.

The CANAF is a biennial tournament of all amputee football nations in Africa to determine the best on the continent and to serve as qualifiers for the World Cup.

The next World Cup will take place in Mexico in 2018 and the CANAF comes off the following year.
