Accra, April 25, GNA - The Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF), has organised a national junior championship at the Accra Sports Stadium, aimed at selecting young athletes for the national team.

The two-day championship, which was also aimed at building a strong future for the sport, attracted athletes between the ages 15 - 17 years.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the GTF, Mr. Adnan Odartey Lamptey, the championship would give the national team coaches a better platform to select athletes into the national team.

He added, 'we want to use this as a practice to groom the athletes as we prepare towards our mission 2020 in the Tokyo Olympics".

He said selected athletes will be grouped into two, forming the national team A and team B adding that the teams will represent Ghana in November at the World Junior Championship in Canada.

The National Taekwondo Junior championship is part of the GTF's mission to qualify Ghana to the 2020 Olympics games in Tokyo after the country failed to qualify to this year's summer Olympics.
