Accra, May 11, GNA - The 58th edition of the Asantehene Open Golf Championship, will tee off at the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi on Thursday, May 14.

The championship, now dubbed MTN Asantehene Gold, will see the separation of scratch (up to hcp 6) and handicap (7-14) playing 36 holes on Saturday and Sunday.

Higher handicap golfers with the desire to play in a better category will engage in a qualifier on Thursday and Friday, to gain access to the next stage of the competition.

Notable golfers scheduled to take part in the competition are past champion Eben Asabere, Edmund Agyekum and Kofi Kyei all of Royal Golf Club, and 2014 Golfer of The Year, Kwabena Poku.

The handicap category will also see golfers like Tony Yeboah, Franklin Gyasi, Samuel Frimpong, President and Captain of the Royal Golf Club and among others on parade.

In the ladies division, Ghana Open Champion, Felicity Okyei- Gyeabour, Mary Prempeh, Etwi-Barima and Cynthia Nyantakyi will compete for honours.

The professionals will also for the first time play from Thursday to Sunday with the field being cut after 36 holes on Friday to meet international standards.

A total prize money of 30,000 cedis will be at stake.
