Rajevac wants to be first expatriate to win Nations Cup for Ghana

Serbian Milovan Rajevac wants to be the first foreign Ghana coach to win the African Cup of Nations in Angola next month.

The Black Stars have won the competition on four occasions with local coaches and pundits believe the odds are against Milo,as he is affectionately called, to re-write the script in Angola.

The Serbain came close to winning the inaugural African Championship of Nations(CHAN) tournament early this year in his first major tournament.

But the local Black Stars were beaten in the final by a well-drilled DR Congo side in Ivory Coast.

The 55-year-old also presided over Ghana's smooth World Cup and Nations Cup qualifying campaign sealing both tickets with two matches to spare.

He admits the Nations Cup finals will be a tough assignment but claims he has the credentials of winning the tournament.

"I know that a foreigner is yet to win and I want to become the first coach to win the title-it's possible," the Serbian told Ghanasoccernet.com

"We came close to winning the CHAN tournament and this could be another great tournament because we have good players who can win."

"There's a lot to be done anyway and we are going to do that in the weeks in South Africa and be ready for the tournament in Angola.

German trainer Otto Pfister came close to winning the trophy with the Black Stars in 1992 but lost out on penalties to Ivory Coast in Senegal.

Under Frenchman Claude LeRoy, the Black Stars finished third on home soil in the last edition of the continent's flagship football event.

Ghana's Nations Cup squad left Accra on Sunday night for Nelspruit, South Africa to begin a two-week pre-tournament training.
