Member of Parliament for South Dayi Constituency, Rockson-Nelson Kwami Etse Dafeamekpor, has offered a heartfelt apology to former Black Stars captain. Asamoah Gyan.

This comes after the NDC Member of Parliament accused Gyan of intentionally missing a crucial penalty kick to stop the then NDC-led Ghana government's chances of taking all the glory during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Ghana, who were making their second appearance at the Mundial would have been the first African side to reach the World Cup semi-finals if Gyan had scored.

Dafeamekpor's accusation was prompted by Gyan's recent appointment to the 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Flag bearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s Manifesto Sub-Committee on Sports.

After a public backlash, the MP expressed regret for his earlier remarks.

In a post on X, the MP said, "The Black Stars and other National Teams have iconically rallied & carried our passions, dreams and aspirations for glory to the world. Upon reflection & calls from people like Kenpong, I retract & unreservedly apologize to Asamoah Gyan, for my comments."

Gyan, who officially retired from football in June 2023 had a distinguished football career, scoring a record 51 goals for Ghana.
