German tennis coach Sven Weber has successfully completed a one-week training programme for 30 junior players at the C.K. Gyamfi Sports College and is currently in Prampram to conduct similar programme.

The programme, which is a follow-up to one conducted last year by another German coach, Hannes Mergner, will end in Accra on February 2.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic last Sunday, Coach Weber said the young players at Winneba responded very well to the basic training exercises. “We also gave out some equipment, including rackets, strings and grips. And as to who will be selected from Winneba, I will discuss it with Coach Mergner since he also has a lot information about the young players,” he said. He expressed the hope that a similar level of enthusiasm and immense talent would be exhibited at Prampram.

Coach Weber will return to Accra next Saturday to conduct the final part of the training programme.

In another interview, Mr Peter Annan, Vice Chairman of the Ghana Tennis Association (GTA), expressed gratitude to former national Juniors Champion, GTA member and Anglogold Ashanti Country Manager, Mr Ernest Abankroh, Mr Andreas Schmidt and the GTA for their role in facilitating the programme.
