Kotoko ready to appeal Players Status Committee decision in case involving former players

Asante Kotoko has confirmed their readiness to appeal the latest judgment from the Players Status Committee against the club in the case involving four of their former players.

On Monday, January 25, 2021, a communique from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced that the Kumasi-based club is being ordered to pay GHS198,000 to ex-players Abass Mohammed, Mathew Kelvin Andoh and Stephen Tetteh Aryiku, and Evans Owusu.

The judgment which will see Kotoko being handed a transfer ban if they fail to comply comes on the back of the termination of the contracts of the players in question without compensation.

In a letter from the club to the GFA, they say they want to appeal the case and hence are asking the football association to provide a regulation that will make that possible.

“As we earlier indicated we do not agree to the decisions of the Players Status Committee (PSC) of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and have resolved to file an appeal. We however note quite unfortunate that there are no procedural rules concerning a roadmap for the filing of an appeal and a clear law to invoke the jurisdiction of the GFA Appeals Committee,” part of Kotoko’s letter signed by Administrative Manager Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi reads.

It continues, “In the circumstance, we kindly request you to advise us on the legal roadmap to use concerning our decision to file an appeal against the above-mentioned decisions.”
