Madam Cecilia Dapaah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Bantama and Deputy Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, has awarded scholarships worth 45 million cedis to 45 students in the second-cycle schools in her constituency to support their education. The support is from her share of the common fund and each student received one million cedis.

Madam Dapaah announced this when she presented four 20-inch colour television sets and 50 bags of cement worth 21 million cedis to some selected schools in her constituency in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region last Friday.

The students are from the Islamic Secondary School, Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Secondary School, Kumasi Girls' Secondary School and Philips Commercial College, while the Bantama Methodist Primary and Junior Secondary School also received the 50 bags of cement.

The MP said the introduction of the capitation grant and feeding system in schools had testified to government's commitment to promote education in the country. She appealed to the tutors of the schools to ensure that they used the television sets at the right time and not to affect the students' studies.

Mr Sulemana Yeboah, Headmaster of Islamic Secondary School on behalf of the beneficiary schools, thanked the MP for the gesture and urged individuals, churches and organisations to emulate the example.

Mr Frederick Agyei, Headmaster of Bantama Methodist Primary and JSS said the cement would help construct one additional classroom for the kindergarten department of the school.
