Ridge School Donates To Aninkromah D/A School

The Ridge School in Kumasi has come to the aid of the Aninkromah D/A Basic School in the Atwima Nwabeagya District of the Ashanti Region.

The student led initiative saw the school take delivery of textbooks, stationery, shoes, and school bags among others to support its academic work.

It formed part of initiatives of the queen mother of Aninkromah Nana Dr. Akosua Akyaa to provide solutions to educational challenges in her traditional area.

The school with a population of some three hundred and seventy (370) children is plagued with serious challenges of inadequate infrastructure, furniture, stationery, books and other basic teaching and learning materials.

The only comfortable facility that the Aninkromah D/A basic school can boast off, is a three classroom block built by a Non-Governmental Organisation.

The school’s plight is compounded by sanitary challenges as the school does not have a single toilet facility for the school heads, the teachers and students.

These challenges have also affected the retention of staff as several teachers posted to Aninkromah end up applying to be transferred from the area.

The Queen mother for Aninkromah Nana Dr. Akosua Akyaa told Ultimate News, her stool is looking forward to collaborations and support from institutions that can help them out of their current situation.

“We are not interested in listing the challenges. We are looking for sustainable relationships with schools and societies that are privileged, to look at what they have and endeavour to support the less privileged,” she stated..

Head boy of the Ridge School Shawn Nyarko Nguah who described the experience as humbling, challenged young students not to wait till they are old before endeavouring to make an impact in society.

Commiserating with the students, the headteacher of the Ridge School Mr Gabriel Pipim indicated that the school has been moved to adopt the school for continuous support in the provision of basic academic needs that will bring the students to some appreciable academic standards.

He emphasized that no student needed to be left out of sound education just because they were born in the villages and hard to reach areas.

The condition of the Aninkroma D/A basic School questions Ghana’s commitment to the full realization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal three which binds countries to ensure that no child is left out of education no matter his or her location or financial status.
