Residents of Krobo Somanya in the Lower Manya Municipality in the Eastern Region has accused the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) of deliberately inflating their bills.

Somewhere within this year, chaos erupted in Krobo Somanya when Power Distribution Service (PDS) disconnected power in the area over non-payment of utility bills by residence.

Speaking on Adom FM Dwaso Nsem Monday morning, President of United Front Foundation, Teye Kwao Kassim said, information by the ECG indicates it is set to besiege the area again for the collection of bills, “whiles the agreement to address the high billing system has not been resolved.”

“ECG is robbing us, and we can’t sit aloof to see that recur,” he intimated.

According to him, management of ECG has admitted the high billing system but find it why surprised why it has not been resolved yet but quick to collect the bills.

“Krobos are not saying they won’t pay electricity bills, all we are saying is the fees are too exorbitant. Someone with a single bulb is suppose to pay about Ghc100 a month, that is not fair. We hear the ECG are preparing to come for collection, we are also here waiting for them," Mr Kassim intimated.

He added that the Energy Minister John Peter Amewu visited the scene during the choatic days and assured constitute of his committee to address the issue, but is yet materialised.
