Old Ashongman-Abokobi Road: Adwoa Safo Cuts Sod For Construction

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo has cut sod for the commencement of the 2.9km road construction from the Ahmadiyya Junction, Agbogba through to the Abokobi Township in the Dome Kwabenya Constituency.

According to her, the road construction comes after numerous calls from the Chiefs and people of the community over the years.

In an exclusive interview with Modern Ghana, the MP said “Today, we are cutting sod for the commencement of a 2.9km road construction. The project which is worth GHc5.5Million will be completed in 12 months and motorists will soon access the road without any problems”.

Hon. Adwoa Safo calls on residents and shop owners whose containers as well as kiosks are likely to interrupt the road construction to relocate for smooth take-off.

She challenged the contractors, Arempa Limited to work within the given time frame to allow free movement of vehicles and people in the community.

She also commended President Akufo-Addo and the Minister of Roads and Highway, Kwasi Amoako-Atta for their support.

The Municipal Chief Executive Officer for Ga East Municipal Assembly, Janet Tulasi Mensah revealed that the MP has made giant strides since assuming office in 2017.

She said “I cannot hide my joy. The Municipality before 2017 was faced with challenges of deplorable roads and poor drainage but today, the story has changed”.

Hon Tulasi Mensah however assured the constituents that the Abokobi-Pantang, Abokobi-Teiman among other roads in the constituency will be receiving face-lift.

She further revealed that works on the recently commissioned 7.5kilometres Dome Pillar 2 roads and the 9.77 kilometer Dome-Adehyeman Junction to Achimota ABC Roundabout is ongoing.

Municipal Roads Engineer, Forster Aboagye assured the MP, that work will finish on time.

"The people are happy with the face-lift and are complying. I am confident we will complete soon and hand over to them," he posited.

Over the years, Residents and Motorists in the Abokobi say they have been calling on previous governments to fix their deplorable roads but all attempts yielded no result. Some say they were compelled to discover new routines to avoid what they call manholes. Some drivers complained that they had to send the vehicles on daily basis due to mechanical faults.
