The Council of State is to meet Friday to deliberate over President Akufo Addo’s quest to affirm Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), James Oppong Boanuh.
Until his appointment, Mr Oppong-Buanuh was the Director-General of Administration at the Police headquarters.
If he is confirmed the Acting IGP will have to get a contract extension by the President as he turns 61 on October 8, and therefore due for retirement.
Joy News sources say there are considerations to also elevate Deputy Commissioner of Police, Christian Tetteh Yehunu to the position of a deputy IGP.
Mr Oppong-Buanuh has chalked some successes since taking up the position of Acting IGP, chief among them bringing closure on the issue of the four missing Takoradi girls.
He is deemed a disciplinarian by section of the public with his quick reaction to issues of police misconduct.
Although some have criticised his less operational experience, sources say COP Yehunu will fill that gap as a deputy.
