Nkoranza (B/A), Feb. 20, GNA - Wesley Methodist Church in Nkoranza in Brong-Ahafo has set up an educational committee to support the activities and work of teachers in Methodist schools in the area. The ultimate objective is to ensure that the students develop morally upright lives and become disciplined and responsible citizens. Announcing this at a Parent-Teacher-Association meeting of the Methodist JSS, Mr David Ayisi Larbi, steward of the church, explained that the committee would ensure that parents would check their children's negative practices, including lateness, absenteeism, attendance at video centres and concerts.

He said a period within every week would also be devoted for morning worship during which the students would be taught teaching from the Bible.

Mr Larbi called on parents to respect and encourage teachers to render selfless services to enhance the education of their children. Mr Akrapim Baffoe, Chairman of the Methodist school management committee advised parents to reduce their spending on social activities and invest in the education of their children. He urged parents to pay regular visits to schools to interact with the teachers to find out the performance of their children to encourage the children to take their education seriously. "Parents should do well to supervise the home works of their children to ensure that they do not go out onto the streets to indulge in social vices", he added.

Mr Osei Boadum, Headmaster, advised parents to regularly attend PTA meetings so that teachers and parents could share ideas to move education forward.

Meanwhile, parents of the Methodist JSS in Nkoranza have resolved to financially support teachers of the school to organize extra classes for JSS Form Three students to adequately prepare them for the impending Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
