The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Ga East Municipal Assembly (GEMA), Hon. Janet Tulasi Mensah, has appealed to citizens in the municipality who are eligible to register to take advantage of the ongoing Limited Voter Registration exercise to register. She spoke to GEMANEWS after her inspection tour to the registration centre at the Electoral Commission (EC) Office at Kwabenya.

The Hon. MCE who was accompanied by the Presiding Member (PM), Hon. Jesse Nii Noi Anum and the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Mr. Joshua Adams Asihene, first interacted with the prospective voters who had queued up from the early hours of Saturday and were awaiting their turn to go through the process to register.

She advised them to comport themselves and exercise restraint as the officials worked hard to register all of them if they qualified.

She then called on the Municipal EC Director, Mrs. Janet Koranteng, who heartily welcome her and briefed her on the progress of the exercise.

Mrs Janet Koranteng told the Hon. MCE that the exercise was going on smoothly and was optimistic that her outfit would endeavour to register all eligible citizens within the period.

She appealed to Churches and Mosques in the municipality to facilitate the publicity of the exercise by making announcements during their meetings.

The MCE, Hon. Janet Tulasi Mensah, commended the EC Director and her team for the great service they are rendering and assured her of the Assembly's support to ensure the exercise end successfully.

She presented refreshment items to the officials as a token of her appreciation of their work.

The EC Director conducted the Hon. MCE and her entourage around the Centre to learn at first hand the processes involved in the registration exercise. She also interacted with the Staff and other officials present and encouraged them to put in their maximum efforts and be patient with the registrants to ensure a smooth exercise.

Speaking to GEMANEWS after the inspection tour, Hon. Janet Tulasi Mensah charged eligible citizens in the municipality to go to the Centre and register and also appealed to the Political Parties' Agents at the Centre to comport themselves and ensure only people who qualify register.

"This exercise is for all Ghanaian citizens who have turned 18 years since the last exercise and those who have never registered so I urge such citizens to use this opportunity to register. I also want to appeal to the party agents here to be responsible and not do anything that will disturb the smooth running of the exercise. You also have the responsibility to ensure that only persons who qualify are registered so please help the EC officials to eliminate all ineligible people, she stated.

The exercise is expected to end on 7th July, 2019.
