Accra, Jan 27, GNA - The National Labour Commission (NLC) has given a seven-day ultimatum to the Managing Director of Stephen Asare Enterprises Limited to honour redundancy payments to Mr Theophilus Afful, a former employee of the Company.

The Commission said should Stephen Asare Enterprises fail to pay the amount by the due date, it would seek a High Court order to compel the company to comply.

An NLC statement signed by its Public Affairs Officer, Mr Mohammed Affum, said Stephen Asare Enterprises Limited had failed to respond to two letters the Commission sent to it in July last year on the petition of the ex-employee.

However, in August last year, the Company wrote to Mr Afful, saying he had been declared redundant and offered to pay his redundancy fees, but it failed to abide by its undertaking to pay the ex-employee in spite of his repeated visits to the company. The NLC has the authority to make application to the High Court for an order to compel a person who refuses to comply with its ruling, and a person found guilty could be sentenced to a fine or a term of imprisonment.
