The Ghana Police Service has announced that they have deployed more Personnel to major roads across the country ahead of the Christmas season to check indiscipline drivers and bring them to book as a means of curbing road accidents.

Pre-Christmas motor and traffic records indicate that accidents tend to increase during this time of the year when a lot of people travel with several others celebrating the occasion in different styles. In a bid to ensure the safety of citizens throughout this period, the Ghana Police has decided to put more boots on the roads to monitor and check the activities of indiscipline drivers.

According to the security agency, they are poised to preserve lives and prevent the damaging of properties during this time of the year.

Head of Education, Research and Training at the Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate of the Police Service, Superintendent Alexander Obeng speaking on Class FM yesterday called on drivers to be vigilant on the roads or risk getting into trouble with the Police.

“If you are a driver and you don’t drive safely you must be reminded that between January and November this year our vigilance have led to a lot of arrest and prosecution of road offenders. So we expect that you drive safely including managing your speed and ensure that you don’t overload your vehicle because these are the ones that we have deployed to look out and detect and arrest”, Superintendent Obeng said.

He continued “Ensure that you don’t run red lights, you don’t tail gauge, you don’t face oncoming vehicles and you don’t also move vehicles that are not roadworthy and you don’t hand over vehicles to unlicensed persons because we will look out and arrest all these offenders.

He further urged drivers to at all times ensure they put on their seat belt and avoid fidgeting with their phones whiles driving. For motorbike riders, the Police have cautioned them to make sure they put on their helmets whenever they hit the road.

Superintendent Alexander Obeng stressed that officers will be on all major ulterior roads in this country which is known to be accident prone.
