Accra, Dec. 15, CDA Consult – Justice Sylvain Ore, President of the African Court of Human and Peoples’ Rights has made a curtesy call on President of the Republic Tunisia His Excellency Beji Caid Essebsi at the Carthage Palace.
The African Court delegation led by Justice Ore, called on the Tunisian President to express gratitude on the occasion of Tunisia hosting the 51stSession of the Continental Court from November 12, to December 7, 2018.
The Tunisian President emphasized the central role of justice in consolidating democracy, establishing the rule of law and institutions, respecting individual freedoms and enshrining human rights in reality and practice.
He stressed that Tunisia, which has made great strides since independence in the field of universal education and women's liberation according to a progressive and phased path, is committed to move forward and irreversibly in promoting these gains, laying the foundations of a civil state and establishing a culture of citizenship and equality in public and private life.
The Tunisian Head of State highlighted the African dimension of Tunisia and its keenness to further strengthening its cooperation with the African countries and with the African Union institutions, especially with African mechanisms related to the promotion and protection of human rights.
He stressed the importance of enhancing solidarity among African countries to defend the interests of their peoples. Education and women as key elevators to catch up with developed countries.
The President of the African Court thanked Tunisia and the Head of State for supporting the efforts of the Court for the protection of human rights in the African continent, especially through the country’s approval to host the 51st Session.
Justice Ore praised the Tunisian authorities' for the facilities provided for convening the session, which culminated its work in the issuance of judgments in a number of cases before it.
Justice Ore considered that the choice of the African Court for Tunisia to hold its 51st session is a recognition that Tunisia represents a successful model at the African level in the field of human rights protection and the promotion of the rule of law, the establishment of a human rights system and the advancement of the role of women in society.
In this context, he recalled the decision of the Tunisian authorities to issue the declaration of the acceptance of the jurisdiction of the Court to receive cases and petitions from individuals and non-governmental organizations with observer status (SIC) at the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights.
