An Amasaman Circuit Court has sentenced into prison a 52-year-old Djasetse of Doblo-Gonno and Achiaman of Amasaman, Nii Lamptey Mills, for 12 months with hard labour.

He was found guilty for engaging in fraudulent sale of land and jailed on Friday 30th November, 2018.

The court presided over by Lordina Serwaa Mireku additionally fined him GHC30,000.

The chief who pleaded not guilty to the charge was first arraigned on May 16, 2017, after his arrest on April 17, 2018.

According to the prosecution witness, Chief Inspector Mary Agyapong, a complainant (name withheld) who is a trader at Tabora approached the accused to inform him of his decision to buy a land in 2016.

At a cost of GH¢15000, the accused then allotted the complainant a plot of land at Doblo-Gonno with the relevant documents covering the said land.

After purchasing the land, the complainant immediately started work on it only to be halted by another claimant to the land.

The accused then tried to change the land by taking the complainant to Kwashiekuma village where he was offered two plots of land.

Upon starting his housing project on the new land, another claimant again emerged forcing the complainant to make a request for a refund of his money but to no avail.

The situation eventually led to the arrest of the accused on April 17, 2018.
