Some Ghanaians have spoken against the expected increase in price of sachet water which takes effect from today November 12, 2018.

According to them, the increase the price of a bag of sachet water will only add to the already high cost of living in the country.

The National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers (NASPAWAP) last week announced that prices of sachet water will go up effective today.

The association said the decision is due to an increase in the cost of production.

A bag of sachet water also known as pure water is therefore now expected to be sold at GHC 3.50 pesewas.

The bag of satchet water used to cost GHC2.50 pesewas before the increase.

A retailer at the Adabraka Market in Accra told Citi Business News she expects to buy a bag of sachet water from 4 cedis since she was previously buying it for GHS3.5.

“The new prices are a bit high, but someone like me who currently buys the bag for GHC 3.50 from my supplier at the moment and also buys blocks I expect to get the bag for GHC 4”.

“So I can't go and get a bag for GHC 4 and sell it for GHC 0.20 pesewas. It is very frustrating that they have increased the prices which will force us also to increase our price. It is very frustrating because buying a sachet of water for GHC 0.30 pesewas is a bit difficult, but if they increase it then we will also increase ours because we buy blocks to cool the water,” she said.

Another retailer, Abdul Malik told Citi Business News shop owners have no option than to pass the cost of the increase to consumers.
