Puma Energy Supports Rotaract Adentan To Create Safer Roads For North Legon

Puma Energy, a global integrated mid and downstream energy company, recently joined forces with Rotaract Adentan, a daughter club of global service organisation Rotary International to create a safer road crossing experience for the community of North Legon.

This project, dubbed “CROSSROADS”, involved the painting of two zebra crossings and the production of lollipop stands outside North Hills International School and TF Hostels, both situated along high-risk, high traffic roads in the area.

While the former caters to children aged from as young as three years old, the latter caters to university students. In previous times, accidents had been reported outside these locations.

Speaking at the zebra crossing painting exercise, the Brand, Events and Communications Officer of Puma Energy, Ms. Laura Asimeng, indicated that sponsorship of this project was directly in line with Puma Energy’s Community Investment focus.

“As an oil marketing company whose drivers and customers drive millions of kilometres daily on our roads, it goes without question that road safety is of prime importance to Puma Energy. So when the Rotaract Club of Adentan approached us to support them on this road safety project, we were happy to come on board – not just to tick a box, but to alleviate the road safety pandemic currently engulfing Ghana,” said Ms Asimeng.

The Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Community Manager of Puma Energy, Mr. Gideon Owusu Brogya, added that given the spate of road accidents in the country, it was necessary that Puma Energy did its part to ensure safer roads for all.

“This is highlighted by the recent AMA Road Safety report launched, demonstrating the impact of road crashes particularly on young people who do not always exercise adequate judgement when crossing the road. Road Safety should not just be a government concern, but a concern for us all,” said Mr. Brogya.

For his part, the President of the Rotaract Club, Mr. Edward Ahenkorah Ofori, expressed gratitude to Puma Energy for the financial support, and stated that the club, which frequently embarks on community service projects, chose the specific North Legon areas due to the impact on young people crossing the roads. This was welcomed wholeheartedly by the Assemblyman of the La-Nkwantanang Municipality, Honourable Atsu, who expressed gratitude to both Puma Energy and Rotaract Adentan for this gesture.

“We are sincerely grateful for your investment of time and resources into our community. Road crossing has in fact been a big problem here because the cars hardly stop! We know that this will make a difference, and we look forward to even more projects being done here,” said Honourable Atsu.
