Interior minister, Paapa Owusu Ankomah has directed the Inspector General of Police-IGP to ensure that all police officers wear nametags from now on to enable the police administration identify personnel who misconducts themselves.

The minister asked the IGP to effect this policy to make it easier to identify officer who may be involved in illegal activities or who distinguish themselves in the course of duty for appropriate action to be taken.

Paapa Owusu Ankomah was concerned about reports that some officers of the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit- MTTU extort money from drivers who use vehicles without valid roadworthy certificates.

This he said is one of the causes of the rampant road accidents.

He asked the police to intensify the exercise it embarked on recently to rid the roads of rickety vehicles.
