Accountant Faces Court For Fraud

An Accountant has been put before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly defrauding a Kumasi based mechanic of GH¢19,100.00 under the pretext of clearing two vehicles from Tema Harbour for him

Prince Egyin who went into hiding after collecting the money and documents covering the vehicles has been charged with defrauding by false pretences.

He pleaded not guilty before the court presided over by Mrs Jane Harriet Akweley Quaye.

The court admitted him to bail in the sum of GH¢30,000.00 with a surety of substance to reappear on June 25.

Prosecuting Sergeant B. Benneh said Mr Frank Amofa, the mechanic and complainant in this case resides at Kumasi and Egyin resides at Kasoa in the Central Region.

Sergeant Benneh said on December 15, 2016, the complainant imported two vehicles namely Opel Astra with chassis number WOLOTGF48W5175507 and Suzuki Baleno with chassis number JSAERC31S00150387 and he wanted a clearing agent to clear the vehicles from the Tema Port for him.

Prosecution said Amofa was introduced to Egyin and he agreed to clear the vehicles at a cost of GH¢19,100.00. The complainant paid the amount and handed over documents covering the vehicles to the accused who promised to clear the vehicles within two weeks.

Prosecution said Egyin after collecting the money went into hiding.

According to prosecution Amofa after several attempts to retrieve his documents and the money from the accused reported the matter to the Police.

On December 20, last year, Egyin was picked by the Police in a similar case where Amofa identified him as the one who collected his money and documents under the pretext of clearing his cars for him but went into hiding.

Prosecution said Egyin in his caution statement admitted the offence.
