The Media Foundation for West Africa joined the fight against the assault on Adom FM reporter who was slapped by Hajia Fati, a dire-in-wool member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) after news broke about the incident last week.

Ohemaa Sakyiwaa on last week Friday was on duty at the NPP headquarters where she was slapped by Hajia Fati for carrying out her duties as a Journalist when she was taking pictures of Hajia. Hajia who has argues that Ohemaa did not ask her permission before taking the Pictures admitted on radio to slapping the reporter, stating that she looked like an onion seller instead of a Journalist.

In 15 months, 17 Journalists have been attacked across the Nation which leaves the question, is the fourth arm of Government safe to carry out its duties to help in Nation Building?

It is in line with this that many are condemning the act and pushing for the right to information bill to be passed.

Recent development indicates that the Media Foundation for West Africa Group whose aim is to promote press freedom has given the NPP Government a one week grace period to make an example of Hajia Fati.

Although Party has yesterday issued a statement signed by John Boadu to condemn the act, and stated that it had begun an internal inquiry into the matter, the media foundation against Journalist Brutality says if further actions are not taken against the woman in a week, other lawful measures will be taken to seek justice.

“So I am saying that madam Hajia should be taken as a scape-goat. For how long will we continue to beat and brutalize journalist in this country”, cried a representative of the Media Foundation for West Africa.
