Chieftaincy Not About Expensive Cars

THE CHIEF of Domeabra near Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region, Nana Kusi Obuodum I, has stated that wearing expensive clothes and riding in plush-looking cars is not the reason people are enstooled as chiefs.

According to him, chieftaincy is a noble and a respectable institution, which requires patriotic and visionary leaders, who would formulate strategies and plans to help develop their jurisdiction for the benefit of their people.

Using his overlord, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as an example, he stated that the Asante King used less than one-year after occupying the sacred Golden Stool to introduce the Otumfuo Education Fund.

Nana Obuodum I observed that through Otumfuo's vision of setting up the education fund, thousands of Ghanaian school-going children from all over the country, have been assisted to climb high the academic ladder.

“Otumfuo's exploits is what we call true leadership. This is a king, who thinks about the wellbeing of his people and he (Otumfuo) is the one I am learning from to help develop Domeabra to make this community better”, he said.

Nana Obuodum was speaking to newsmen when he was selected to receive honourary doctorate degree from a university in Ukraine for his leadership style, which has helped transformed Domeabra.

The Confederation of Governance Assessment Institute (COGAI), an agency in Ghana and its affiliate, Bureau of Research on Governance and Administration (BORGCA) have realized the exemplary leadership style of the Domeabrahene.

The two aforementioned groups have therefore relayed information about the good works of the Domeabrahene to the Ministry of Education in Ukraine, who had appointed a university in that country to honour him.

Nana Obuodum's short reign as Domeabrahene has led to the construction of a modern police station, school blocks, library, a modern chief's palace and several other projects, which has given Dombeabra a major facelift.

The Domeabrehene, who was a prominent businessman before he was enstooled as chief, said he was happy that his exemplary works had been recognized, adding that he would continue to learn from Otumfuo to improve Domeabra.

“The Asantehene stands for development and Domeabra belongs to him. I am just taking care of Domeabra for Otumfuo so it is right that I emulate the shining example of my overlord, the Asantehene”, he stated with a smile on his face.

The honourary doctorate degree is expected to be conferred on the Domeabrahene at Kumasi, in June this year.
