The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has installed a 20mva transformer at the Jasikan Booster Station to stabilize power supply in the Volta Region.

Mr Delali Oklu, ECG General Manager, Volta Region, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that the Company was aware of frequent power fluctuations in the Region, often as a result of distance between supply stations and consumers, hence the new transformer.

He said the installation of the transformer would ensure 'reliable' power supply in the catchment area.

Mr Oklu said power extension projects were still ongoing, but lamented that vegetation growth and bush fires remained a challenge to an uninterrupted supply.

He said the Company was among other interventions undertaking vegetation control, while replacing some wooden electrical poles with metal ones to improve reliability.

Mr Oklu said ECG was engaging stakeholders including opinion leaders in the various communities on the need to educate the public about the dangers of bush fires.

He said locals were being encouraged to report faults or suspicious activities to the Company for appropriate actions to be taken.

Mr Oklu said revenue was the 'lifeblood' of the Company, and urged customers to pay their bills promptly towards network improvement and quality power supply.
