NPP Amenfi East Constituency Chairmanship And The Galamsey Campaign, Nana Kofi Amankwah Speaks

NPP Amenfi East Constituency Chairmanship And The Galamsey Campaign, Nana Kofi Amankwah Speaks
15.02.2018 LISTEN

The Amenfi East constituency NPP chairmanship contest which seems to be a two-horse race has generated lots of allegations and counter allegations.

Asafoankye Badu, the current chairman who is seeking re-election has accused his opponent Nana Kofi Amankwah who has been highly accepted by the delegates of having plans to stop galamsey which is the main occupation of the people of Wassa Amenfi apart from Cocoa farming.

The office of Nana Kofi Amankwa has issued a statement to debunk the allegations and has pledged his support for legalisation small scale mining.

Read the full statement below.
*REGULATE AND LEGALISE SMALL SCALE MINING*
The attention of the office of Nana Kofi Amankwah, NPP Constituency Chairman hopeful of Amenfi East has been drawn to fictitious and baseless allegation by Asafoankye Badu and his team that he, Nana Kofi Amankwah is against Galamsey and as such will do anything possible when elected to wipe Galamsey out completely in the constituency.

He wants to put on record that, he had never and will never make such a statement or support the ban on galamsey. Wiping out Galamsey or any other industry lies in the dictate of the Government and not Nana Kofi Amankwah.

It is very surprising to note that as someone who was born and raised, lived all his life in Wassa land and knowing how much small scale mining contributes to the development of Wassaman will be making such comments.

There have been countless occasions that Nana Kofi Amankwah has made known his position on this galamsey saga.

As a law abiding citizen, he might not be happy with the government's long term decision to ban galamsey for almost six months knowing that the galamseyers have families and other responsibilities to take care of but just to comply and pray that government speeds up the implementation processes of the Multilateral Mining Integrated Project (MMIP) which will surely address all the challenges posed by small scale mining and regulate.

It is very alarming to know that most of the small scale miners supported the change agenda to bring NPP Government to power.

They never voted for change to be rendered jobless but to have a conducive environment supported by law to operate fully and contribute to national development.

Nana Kofi Amankwah is seriously crusading to see an end of this era where we have to walk in a silent night putting our lives at high risk point to mine.

The era where galamsey is placed on the same scale as selling cocaine and other illicit drugs must come to end.

People must be in the capacity to seek for financial assistance from banks to support galamsey.

The era where you work and people in government of the guise of providing security or preventing the strike of Operation Vanguard takes your hard earned money and move from site to site ceasing people's black for their personal gains must surely come to an end.

We must enjoy the fruit of our labour and happily go about our daily activities doing our dream job.

Nana Kofi Amankwah will never relent on his efforts in pushing for the regulation and legalization of galamsey as the constituency Chairman.

Wassa Amenfi, once a vibrant community for high economic gains must be back on track.

Let's all support in our small way and cooperate with the NPP Government to help facilitate the implementation of the Multilateral Mining Integrated Project (MMIP) so that our dear brothers and sisters in the Small scale mining industry can go back to work peacefully.

God bless Wassaman and make us great and strong.
