'Plight Of Two Orphans' Launched

A book entitled 'The plight of two orphans,' has been launched in Tamale with a call on parents to commit resources towards helping their children to unravel their potentials.

The book was written by a 14 year-old pupil, Miss Susana Korkor Tano, of the Little Flower School Complex in Tamale.

'The Plight of two orphans' is a tragic-comedy designed to encourage orphans or the less-privileged to endure any hardship and aspire higher to be successful in life.

Mr Caesar Abagali, the Northern Regional Manager of the Ghana News Agency, who reviewed and launched the book, described it as a master piece, which all children must read to be able to endure and withstand unforeseen maltreatment.

He said society often seemed to neglect children who lost their parents at tender ages adding that support for those children must be a priority.

He said the 10-page book was also about torture, maltreatment and punishment that the two orphans suffered in the hands of their uncle after the untimely death of their parents.

'What the book discussed still happens in this 21st century and I think the writer must be supported to write more of such stories for the public,' he said.

Mr Abagali, also the Northern Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists' Association, appealed to parents to invest more in the education of their children and said society must support needy children for their dreams to materialise.

Mr Christopher Nasamu, a Representative of the Tamale Metropolitan Director of Education, commended the author for taking the bold step to write and publish the book saying; 'Such children must be monitored with keen interests because they have the potential to shape society through writing.'

He appealed to teachers to encourage children to venture into the fine arts so that they would be creative and cultivate the habit of reading to improve themselves academically.

Alhaji Mohammed Abdulai Saddique, the Chairman of the Parent Teacher Association of Little Flower School Complex, advised parents to commit their resources to help their children unravel their potentials.

Ms Susana Korkor Tano described 'The plight of two orphans' as a true story that happened in the Sefwi area in the Western Region, which touched her heart hence the decision to put it into writing so that those who maltreated children would stop.

She appealed for financial assistance to enable her to publish other works and gave the assurance that she would coach other children in the school to also write books.

Meanwhile, the first copy of the book was purchased at GHc500 whiles GHc4,000.00 was realised after auctioning the book.
