Peki Union, Fredmef Group Limited, and Team Diamond of Max International have presented mattresses to the Peki Government Hospital.

The items, including mattresses for children are estimated at GH¢50,000.00 and would breathe new life into the hospital wards and make them comfortable to patients.

The donation followed appeals from the Hospital to replace used-up and infested mattresses in the wards and get new ones for beds without mattresses.

Mr Bernard Duose, National President, Peki Union, said the gesture was to facilitate the quick recovery process of patients in the wards and help reposition the Hospital as one of the best in the country.

He appealed to the Ministry of Health to expand the accident and emergency unit of the Hospital because it is one of the major health facilities along the Eastern Corridor road, noted for road crashes.

Dr Alphonse Dzakpasu, the Medical Superintendent, expressed gratitude to the benefactors adding that the donation is an important intervention because infections are quite high due to bodily fluids, necessitating replacement.

He said the Hospital was working on upgrading its theatre and diagnostic unit and called for support from government and all stakeholders.

Dr Dzakpasu said the facility needed vehicles for outreach efforts, bungalows for staff and also needed support to complete its fence wall to ensure safety of clients and staff.

The Hospital, said to be built by Peki women in 1954, is struggling to maintain its status as a major health facility in the Volta Region with outmoded equipment.

The Hospital's Urvan bus sent to convey pressmen from Ho for the event could best be described as 'coffin on wheels', compelling some journalists to abandon it and find their own means of transport to the event venue, the Hospital.
