Osu Mantse Celebrates 10th Installation Anniversary

The 10th anniversary installation celebration of the Osu Mantse , His Majesty DF Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI , has taken place at Osu, a suburb of Accra with a call on the Ga people to give way to peace and unity.

In his address, the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Prof. Mike Okwei Snr, called on the people of Osu and the Ga Traditional Council in general to emulate the examples of the Asante Kingdom to unite and champion the cause of their people with one voice.

The Speaker , an indigene of Osu, congratulated the king on his tenth anniversary of reign as the leader of the Osu people and further appealed for all to rally behind their Kings to help bring development to their respective communities.

He said the Gas have entertained divisiveness amongst themselves for long which has been the cause of underdevelopment in most Ga states and that the time to give chance for peace, unity and development to prevail is now .

Prof. Mike Okwei Snr also encouraged them to take education of their wards seriously which according to him is the key to liberation.

On his part the Osu Mankrado , Nii Ako Nortei IV, pointed out that the occasion was to also take stock of history, achievements, challenges and prospects for the Osu Traditional Council which has gone through a lot in the past decade.

The Mankrado described the celebration as a new page in the annals of the Osu people and added his voice on the need for peace and unity to be allowed to prevail amongst the people.

He further called on all to support the call for unification among the Ga Chiefs and people of the Greater Accra region and beyond.

He among other things mentioned the establishment of an educational fund, given of a facelift to the Osu Chief’s Palace with various offices for the staff as some of the indelible successes chalked by the King since his assumption into office in 2007.

Other success chalked by the Osu Mantse , the Mankrado disclosed was the elevation of the Osu stool to a paramouncy in 2012 as well as his induction into the Greater Accra House of Chiefs and subsequent election as the President of the House .

‘’Plans are far advanced to set up a vocational and training institute for the youth, bank, multi-purpose business center, recreational centers for Osu senior citizens as well as a state of the arts Chief’s Palace, befitting the status of the Osu stool’’ Nii Ako Nortey revealed.

Dr. Kwame Acheampong, the CEO for GLICO Group of Companies who chaired the function, said ten years on a throne is not a mean achievement considering the uneasiness surrounding chieftaincy issues in Ghana.

The journey so far has been that of hard work, perseverance, commitment, dedication and selfless leadership to the people to reach this far.

The GLICO Boss disclosed that the people are cognizant of the unity and rapid development the Osu Mantse has brought to his people in his bid to support government’s socio-economic transformation of the country.

He reminded the King that although the task ahead is daunting but he is optimistic the king could stand the test of time and help bring more laurels and enhance the lives of his subjects and others that reside within his jurisdiction based on his past achievements.

The King His Majesty, D.F Nii Okwei Kink Dowuona VI on his part , thanked the people for the support given him in the last decade of his reign as their leader and promised to work harder to improve on their living conditions.

He advised them especially the youth to be law abiding citizens and to be good ambassadors of the Ga people wherever they may find themselves.

Awards were given to individuals who have assisted the Osu Stool tremendously in diverse ways

The ceremony was graced by other dignitaries such as Dr. Macaulay , the CEO of MacDan Shipping, Hon. Stanley Adjiri Blankson, the former Accra Mayor , security services, the clergy as well as other Chiefs from some part of the country including Nigerian communities living within the Osu area.
