A 30 year old Policeman has appeared before an Accra District Court for allegedly raping a 19 year old girl at Cantonments in Accra.

Akossey Jake, a General Constable has initially been charged with Rape.

The court presided over by Mr. Worlanyo Kotoku did not take his plea and remanded him into Police custody to reappear on December 27.

Prosecuting, Sergeant Simeon Terkpor told the court that the victim who is also the complainant is a student residing at Cantonments with her mother.

Sergeant Terkpor said the victim's mother operate a chop bar behind the National Police Headquarters in Accra.

According to the prosecutor, the victim's mother used part of the chop bar as their fixed place of abode.

Prosecution said Jake resides at Kaneshie in Accra and has been patronising the chop bar where the victim usually assists her mother to sell food and drinks.

On November 17, this year, at about 11:30pm, the accused person came to the chop bar to purchase drink and after being served with the drink, the accused began caressing the victim.

''The victim protested and asked the suspect to leave the bar but the suspect refused and forcibly had sexual intercourse with the complainant without her consent'.

The Prosecution said the complainant then called her mother who had travelled and narrated her ordeal to her and her uncle as well.

Sergeant Terkpor said the victim's uncle accompanied her to the Cantonments Police station where a report was made and the victim was issued with a medical report form to seek medical attention.

Prosecution said the matter was referred to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service and the accused was arrested.
