Crime & Punishment Respected Man In Green Defiled Minor
DEC 12, 2017 LISTEN

Franklin Kumbo, a 32 year old soldier on Monday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly defiling a seven year old girl at Burma Camp, Accra.

Kumbo charged with defilement has however pleaded not guilty.

Kumbo's Defence Counsel expressed his surprise at the turn of events and described the allegation against his client as malicious.

Defence Counsel said Kumbo has an alibi.
The court presided over by Mrs. Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku remanded Kumbo into Police custody noting that if accused was granted bail he could interfere with the investigations of alibi. He is to reappear on December 19.

The court has therefore ordered that the notice of alibi should be served on prosecution for it to be investigated.

The case as narrated by Sergeant Simon Terkpor who held the brief of Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire said the complainant is a trader residing at Burma Camp, Accra and the mother of victim.

Prosecution said the accused person also resides at Burma Camp, adding that the complainant and Kumbo resided in the same Barracks.

On October 28, this year in the afternoon, prosecution said the victim was going to play with her friends when Kumbo met her.

The prosecutor said the accused removed a handkerchief from his pocket and used same to cover the victim's face and lured her into his room.

According to the prosecutor Kumbo undressed the victim and had sex with the victim on a bed and warned her not to inform any one about the act else he would beat her up.

After the act, prosecution said Kumbo led the victim out of the room and left her behind his apartment.

Later the victim fell sick and she complained of abdominal pain saying anytime she urinated there were blood stains in the urine.

Prosecution said on November 10, this year, at about 0800 hours the victim narrated her ordeal to the complainant and led the complainant to Kumbo's door and identified same.

The same day, prosecution said at about 14:40 hours, the victim's father who is a soldier reported the incident to the Ghana Military Police where a medical form was issued for the victim to seek medical attention.

Later the matter was transferred to the Domestic Violence and Victim's Support Unit.

Prosecution said Kumbo in his caution statement denied the offence.
